Currently based in Chennai, India, Vivek Karunakaran graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai, India, with an award-winning Diploma in Fashion Design in 2002. Working with Isex Fashions, Chennai as the Creative Head – he has put together collections for various American & European labels like Zara, Armani, Facconable, Napapijri, Kenzo, and Brooksfield. His Fall ’08 line - UBER-CHIC- was a representation of sophisticated glamour with a hint of sparkle in a range of clean cut urban ensembles. With an emphasis on surface textures in the form of strong detailing, the collection sports an understated chic and edgy look this Fall. Most recently, Vivek Karunakaran has been selected by Westside in their latest project of launching a prêt line of clothing under the designer’s name. In an attempt to help fashion reach out to the masses, this line of clothing will be available in all Westside stores throughout the country under the label ASCOT Designer Prêt by Vivek Karunakaran.
