As soon as 14th SAARC Summit ended in New Delhi on Wednesday, wives of some SAARC delegates went to the Central Cottage Industries Emporium at Janpath.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz’s wife Rukhsana, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse’s wife Shiranthi and Bhutan’s First lady Yanki Wangchuk browsed handicraft works at the Cottage.
Rukhsana Aziz purchased orange-yellow and mehndi green zari sarees. She also picked a pale pink banarasi fabric from the summer collection of the emporium.
Shiranthi Rajapakse bought beautiful ornaments and Yanki, wife of Bhutan PM Khandu Wangchuk took interest in Ikkat prints and hand blocks. She bought traditional indigo cloth and a silk stole.
This stresses the fact that Indian Handicraft has definitely carved a niche in the global market.
