Routinely enquiries by the spinning mills during the week under report served mainly for the ascertainment of prices. Since the replacement basis in the countries of origin remains furthermore high for the merchants, transactions on the level of mill buyers´ price ideas were hardly possible.
The prospective plantings for 2007 of 30th March was indeed expected with interest by many market participants, however, had no impact. Compared with the week before, the quotations in New York were virtually unchanged for the trading month March 2007 and for May barely 50 points higher. The Cotlook A Index for Northern Europe quoted 10 points above week before.
In the Upland range were sales registered in West African types for prompt and in the 2nd quarter 2007; Central Asian sorts for prompt and in the 3rd quarter 2007; Brazil cotton for the 4th quarter 2007.
In the ELS/LS range were traded: Egyptian GIZA 86 and 88, Sudan Barakat as well as Turkish long staple cotton, all for prompt.
