Renfro Corporation, which deals in hosiery, is planning to cut down more than 100 jobs at its riverside plant in Mount Airy in North Carolina.
In recent years, several textile manufacturers have cut jobs or closed down. Despite the loss of many textile jobs, city officials say businesses in Mount Airy are doing quite well.
But Mount Airy Mayor Jack Loftis said "Our unemployment rate is still higher than we'd like to see it, but it's not astronomical".
The Mayor also said "We appreciate their interest and concern for their employees as they made this economic move for the company".
Renfro Hosiery Mills Company employs over 4,500 people worldwide. The company has manufacturing facilities in North and South Carolina, Alabama, Mexico, Turkey, India and Pakistan.
It also operates Sales and Distribution Centers in North and South Carolina and in Europe, Canada and Mexico.
