Uncertainty about the further development of the cotton prices let the inquiries by the spinning mills in the local market drop to a low level. A wait and see attitude is supported by the present quotations at the New York cotton futures market.
Purchased was again just the most necessary supply and special cotton excepted, only for the nearer dates. Replacement at origin is at present almost impossible on the basis of the mill-buyers price ideas, since offers from the countries of origin are either much higher, or even unavailable.
In the Upland range were traded: Central Asian sorts for prompt and through 2nd quarter 2007; Greek descriptions for loading in the 1st and 2nd quarter 2007; West African types for terms in the 1st to 2nd quarter 2007; as well as Zimbabwe cotton for the 3rd and 4th quarter 2007.
In the ELS / LS range, smaller turnovers were registered in Egyptian GIZA 86, 88 and 70 for prompt; Israel Pima for prompt, Sudan Barakat for prompt and further through 3rd quarter 2007, as well as Central Asian ELS still for the 1st quarter 2007.
