Recently, Burundi government canceled an act which was enacted three years ago to protect domestic cotton cloth, and reopened the cotton cloth market again.
It was reported that the original purpose of this act was to protect Bujumbura s textile mill from going bankrupt. But because of the poor management and outdated equipment, the factory got into trouble finally. Therefore, the government decided not to implement the act anymore, and cotton cloth market would be fully opened. The imported cotton cloth which were seized by customs between 2004 to 2006 will be returned to their owners.
