Brazil to become the world's fourth largest producer of silk

Although Brazil s sericulture has a late start, good quality silk gains increasing high reputation in the international market. Now it has become the world's fourth largest silk-producing country after China, India and Vietnam.

It is known that Brazil silk s levels reach 4A-6A, which is the highest quality grade. Due to the high quality, world famous brand HERMES kerchief and tie are made of 100% Brazil silk, 300 to 400 U.S. dollars each. Japan is the largest importer of Brazil silk, its imports account for 60% of Brazil's total output, and they mainly use Brazil silk to make kimono. Whereas, Brazilian domestic silk consumption is very small, only 5% of the total.

Brazil s sericulture industry is mainly in southern Palana states. The cocoon production in the state is 7,141 tons in 2006, accounting for 88.7% of the country's total output.
