According to Deloitte Office s annual survey of Europeans Christmas spending, compared with last year, this year, Christmas spending of Irish, British and Spanish will grow by 6% to 10%. While expenditure of French will be between -1% or +2%.
French s Christmas spending only accounts for 2% of total expenditure. But the French still spend an average of 550 euros for the purchase of Christmas gifts. The most wanted Christmas gifts for French adults are CD, DVD and video products (50%), books (34%), perfume and cosmetics (34%) and clothing.
The young persons, especially children aged 12 to 18 years, want the CD and DVD as gifts. Garment ranked first choice for two consecutive years of Christmas gifts, but fell to third place this year. It may be related to the sale after Christmas, because French women want to buy cheap goods at that time.
The poll also show European consumers are continually growing concerns on prices. For example, French attaches great importance to the sale and price, they may buy Christmas gifts in the boutique, supermarket and shop at the same time. In terms of garment and textile products, they prefer to buy in boutique while buy daily garment in the supermarket.
