Government has decided to provide proportional allocation based on trading history to all the importers.

Department of trade and industry, recently, announced that the administration will issue specific course of action about the implementation of Chinese import quotas.

Iqbal Sharma, Acting Deputy Director General of international trade and economic development said, "The Chinese, of course, want to be treated fairly and want access to markets. They understand our needs, which is why the agreement covers investment, technology transfer and human resource capacity development."

Quotas, to be executed from January 1, 2007, will cover 200 products, ranging from children's clothing to ski suits, excluding T-shirts and knitted jerseys.

Reserve Bank Governor, Tito Mboweni and Cosatu General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi will meet to discuss their differences surrounding the quotas.
