It is reported that on October 24, the EU Parliament passed a resolution, saying products content of compound per-fluor-ooctane-sulphonate (PFOS) in EU market should not exceed 0.005%. This marks the EU formally ban on the use of PFOS in commodities totally, the ban s transitional period will last for 18 months.
PFOS is currently the world's hardest organic pollutants found to degrade, animal experiments show that 2 mg/kg of PFOS can cause death. At the moment, the world s PFOS annual output is 3,665 tons, while EU's annual consumption is 400 tons. PFOS has been widely used in textiles, carpets, shoes, paper-making, packaging, printing and dyeing, washing, cosmetics, pesticides and hydraulic oil.
