Brazil : 65th Plenary Meeting of ICAC to begin today

The 65th Plenary Meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) is scheduled to begin today at the International Convention Center in Goiania, Goias, Brazil. It is going to run through September 15, 2006.

Hosted by the Government of Brazil in cooperation with the Brazilian cotton industry, its theme is The Social and Environmental Impacts of Cotton Production and Use .

The theme will provide an opportunity for constructive evaluation of the impacts of cotton production and consideration of better management practices that lead to improved social and environmental conditions.

Topics of the meeting include efficiency and environment, government measures that effect production and trade, outlook for supply and use, commercial standardization of instrument testing, biotechnology and crop management, the future of South American textile industry, marketing of quality of Brazilian Cotton, trade rule standardization, price risk management, improving competitiveness, demand enhancement and organic cotton production.
