Cambodia is taking up aggressive steps to attract investment in textile industry.
On Friday, Government announced a grant of two year profit tax free holiday for apparel-garment manufacturers.
Firms that applied for licenses prior to March 14, 2005 will be eligible for this facility.
Government wants to improve socio-economic condition of the people by preserving jobs that engage about 300,000 workers in this sector.
Over two million locals have benefited from the wages earned by garment workers, especially women and this sector is the country s largest foreign exchange earner.
With over 300 manufacturing units, Cambodia exported garments worth US $2.17 billion, representing a year-on-year growth of ten percent.
Commerce Ministry has also reported that the garment exports in the first quarter of 2006 were pegged at $689 million posting almost 26.4 percent rise over the same period in 2005.
