Garment workers of Bangladesh have rejected new monthly minimum wage of Tk1,604 saying it is not sufficient compared to cost of living in the country, Garment Labour Union leader, Nazma Akhter stated.
Garment workers resumed work in mid-June after rampage in May when agitated workers set fire to 16 factories.
On the other hand, Wage Commission member Jafrul Hasan stated that the amount of Tk1,604 was set after considering cost of living and employers ability to pay.
