Members of South African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU) hold high a banner, which is patched by 40,000 pieces of cloth, to show their opposition to the cheap garment imports from China. They claim that the cheap garment imports have caused thousands of workers unemployed in South Africa.
Low-cost imports from China have resulted in 67,000 workers unemployed in clothing, footwear and textile industries, while 35 million workers are may in danger of unemployment.
Pate, the Secretary-General of SACTWU figures that for a better and stable life, workers need a salary at least 3,000 rand / month. He also suggests that free trade agreements should not be the implemented, because this will facilitate the growth of imports from foreign countries.
