India has proposed to put tariff-freeze on 290 items till 2012 as per the revised offer of tariff liberalization for the Indian-ASEAN Ceca, in addition to 560 items negative list it already has.
290 items proposed include types of polymers such as butanols, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol and glycerol, specified leather and apparel products, polyester staple fibre, textile items like yarn, woven synthetic fabric and sportswear.
According to Government, after 2012, above items will see steady tariff reduction up to 7.5 percent by 2022. ASEAN's total export to India was valued at $8.73 billion, of which 560 items belonging to negative list were worth $489.5 million.
Negative list mainly consists of agricultural products, marine products, textile, polymers and ASEAN is pressing India to reduce the list further.
