The New Zealand Government is putting in $1.96 million into a project that aims to strengthen Kapiti-Horowhenua's textile businesses and help them become more competitive, Economic Development Minister Trevor Mallard said today.
The DesignTex project will links businesses in the lower North Island and help them build business expertise and production.
"While the textile industry has struggled at times in the past, the Government believes it has a future," Mr Mallard said.
"However, greater collective action is required to transform its global competitiveness."
DesignTex will provide training programmes, foster leadership abilities link designers with manufacturers and promote collaboration within the sector.
