Ghana: China breaks backbone of local textile industry

China is one pillar of economic growth in 21 century and two-way trade between China and Africa in oil and other commodities has increased to $42 billion than $22 billion in 2005.

China s adroitness duplicating African patents in textile has affected textile industry of Africa drastically. In two years 23,000 workers of textile industry of Ghana have lost their jobs and currently have only 2000 workers in the country.

Ghana should negotiate with China on trade agreements so that both the countries should be benefited equally. Ghana should enter into agreement with China which helps textile industry to become more competitive in the world rather than be exploited with unfair trade practice by China.
