Pinti Wang, President and CEO of GTC Technology Inc, announced that PetroChina and GTC have signed an agreement for GTC to provide licensed technology at PetroChina's Dushanzi site.
The petrochemical and refining giant will use GTBTX process technology to extract high-purity BTX aromatics from pygas at its 1.2MMton/yr ethylene plant which will be erected in Dushanzi, in the Xinjiang autonomous region of northwestern
China. Production is slated to begin in the second half of 2008.
According to Mr. Wang, "The growth for petrochemicals in China is, of course, huge. PetroChina is a good example of engineering choices based upon technical innovation and economic advantage. PetroChina is growing to support the demand in China. GTC is gratified to be such an integral part of these efforts."
PetroChina is one of the largest oil refiners and petrochemical producers in China. Earlier in 2004, GTC provided GT-BTX process technology and the related proprietary items to PetroChina's Dalian Refinery site.
The Dalian project will process 1MM tons/yr reformate feed and is the largest aromatics extraction unit in China. Both PetroChina Dalian and PetroChina Dushanzi are planned to meet the continued demand growth in the Chinese market.
GTC Technology is an independent, management-owned technology licensor. Operating worldwide, GTC provides proprietary licensed technology to the polyester intermediates and refining markets.
