Gale Pacific, one of the leading manufacturer and exporter of advanced polymer fabrics, having manufacturing units in Melbourne, Australia, Christchurch, New Zealand and Beilun China, uses a unique 'two step' technology for manufacturing.
The company recently publicized its consideration of moving its New Zealand manufacturing operations to China .This would cost a lot to many of the employees in Christchurch.
Insiders reveal that Gale Pacific would now be into an official discussion so as to see what can be reclaimed and what can be done to keep the production or a part of it in New Zealand.
There are chances of maintaining a part of the company’s production unit in New Zealand. On the contrary, if the manufacturing division does move to China, the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union would do something in order to keep an eye on the production work.
However, to begin with the production and all other activities abroad, the Government would need to employ a Minister of Manufacturing, for which, Gale would have to wait.
