The demand for cotton remained restricted also in the week under report. Even though the quotations at the futures market in New York declined, the offers for effective cotton from the origins remained relatively firm, if there were offers at all.
Prices for ELS and LS varieties experienced a clear rise in prices due to the scant availability and foreseeable shortage in the coming season. The existing difference in prices between the ideas of the mills´ buyers and the merchants in many cases was hardly to be bridged.
In the Upland range sales were registered in Central Asian sorts for prompt delivery and further in the 2nd and 3rd quarter 2008, as well as Greek descriptions for prompt and through into the 4th quarter 2008.
Contracts in the ELS/LS range were registered as follows: Egyptian GIZA 86 for prompt delivery and for dates in the 3rd quarter 2008, also Israel Pima for the same period of time.
