Adidas and the Australian Olympic Committee joined together to unveil the 2008 Australian Olympic Uniforms. Merging the traditional Australian colours with adidas?? technological advances, the uniforms are set to ensure that the Australian team performs at its best at the 2008 Olympics.
Comprising over 100,000 items of apparel and footwear, adidas will outfit close to 900 Australian athletes and officials, ranging in sizes from 4 Extra Small to 4 Extra Large.
The major developments for the Australian uniforms are the inclusion of advanced adidas TECHFIT POWERWEB, ForMotion and ClimaCool technologies, which will work to improve the performance of all the athletes no matter the sport they are competing in.
Appropriate uniforms, such as those from sports such as athletics, boxing, rowing and weightlifting have been fitted with adidas TECHFIT POWERWEB technology. The compression suits will feature Thermoplastic Urethane (TPU) Powerbands for the first time. These Powerbands are anchored at key points, such as around the waist or above the knees and are focused on key muscle groups in the upper legs and shoulders.
Working in unison with the muscles they function like springs and testing using the new technology has resulted in significant performance benefits including a 1.1% increase in speed, 5.3% increase on average power output and an 0.8% decrease in oxygen consumption resulting in increased efficiency and endurance.
With the temperatures set to soar in Beijing, adidas have incorporated their state of art ClimaCool and ClimaLite technologies in all key apparel and footwear. The Australian athletes will actually be able to stay cooler in their adidas uniforms featuring ClimaCool technology than they can in bare skin thanks to an integrated system that will regulate the athlete??s body temperature. By mapping the body??s critical heat and sweat zones using infrared cameras, adidas designers have developed a combination of performance fabrics, open mesh and ventilation channels in the key areas of the body to keep cool air flowing in and heat and sweat flowing out.
The ForMotion design technology is applied to most outfits and features radical cuts and 3D designs the follow the form of the body to increase comfort, boost freedom of movement and improve the athlete??s form.
President of the AOC, John Coates said ??The AOC and adidas have enjoyed a great association over the years. Our athletes will stand out in Beijing in adidas and they will feel confident knowing they are wearing uniforms created using the latest technology available around the globe??.
??adidas has had a long tradition in Olympic sports and it is with great excitement that we have renewed our long standing relationship with the Olympic movement in Australia.,?? adidas Marketing Director Simon Millar commented.
??We??re proud to be able to supply our cutting edge technology to the Australian team and wish them the best of luck for the Olympics, the pinnacle of their sporting careers.??
Olympic athlete Jana Rawlinson was impressed by the uniforms unveiled at the launch. ??The Olympics is every athlete??s dream, and to be able to wear the best in technology that will help us perform at our best is very exciting,?? she commented. ??The fact that I think we will be the best looking team out there is an added bonus,?? Rawlinson added.
