Exclusive European nightgown and lingerie e-tailer Certain Style has launched a new collection of made-to-measure, upscale nightwear which features historically inspired designs brought up to date with modern fabrics.
The ‘Devonshire’ collection of nightwear was inspired by a costume ball held by the Duchess of Devonshire in 1897, where the guests, all of high society at the time, attended as the kings, queens and courtiers of history – their costumes designed by the top dressmakers and couturiers of the time.
Some have said that it was this ball which placed the official seal on the position of Parisian designers in society, so the event may be credited with the beginning of ‘fashion’ as we know it. The Duchess own costume was created by Worth, the most famous couturier of them all. The collection is available exclusively on the web and designed to appeal to those with a taste for exclusivity, luxury and romance.
Centrepiece of the collection is the ‘Elizabeth’ robe. Made from deep red brocade, the historical influence is quite clear in the deep neck, wide sleeves and sumptuous faux fur trim, reminiscent of the gowns of a young Queen Elizabeth I. The robe is fully lined, and perfect for the holiday season http://www.certainstyle.com/Elizabeth-Red-Fur-Trimmed-Robe-p/1201.htm A matching chemise is available with lace bodice and a halter neck in butter colored silk.
More fanciful are the ‘Sheba’ pyjamas. An elegant pure black silk satin camisole with cross over straps plus wide chiffon pants, which reveal just the outline of the leg inside, form elegant evening pyjamas. The matching robe, made from cut silk velvet with wide ‘butterfly’ sleeves and featuring an on trend ‘winter garden’ design in ivory, is edged with silver and brings a romantic fantasy element to the collection.
A classical influence is clear in the ‘Helen of Sparta’ nightgown – a one-shoulder style with elasticised waist and removable belt in brown and gold. The collection also includes a yellow silk ‘Marie Antoinette’ nightgown with back lace bodice, and a delicate blue silk georgette Empire style nightgown with silver trim, designed in homage to Napoleon’s great love Josephine.
Completing the collection is a gold robe inspired by costumes of Catherine the Great with a deep Watteau Back and wide ruffle. Lavishly trimmed at the neck and cuffs with rare Nottingham lace in an unusual acorn design, which dates back the 14th century, the ensemble is completed by a blue silk nightgown with lace bodice and cross over straps. The nightgown is also available separately.
Founded more than 4 years ago in Berkshire, England, Certain Style combine quality fabrics, expert finishing and rare laces to create their robes, nightgowns, pyjamas, slips, camisoles and other lingerie. While some items are available from stock, most are made to measure, ensuring that these sumptuous styles are available to women of all shapes, including extended sizes.
‘As a plus size woman myself I feel very strongly that our items should be available in all sizes’, says Lesley Charalambides, Certain Style’s CEO. ‘Many companies seem to think that curvy women don’t enjoy luxury or quality items.’ says Lesley ‘I expect good quality in everything I buy, and sometimes I like to spoil myself – and I don’t see why my size should make that difficult’.
The Devonshire collection is made entirely in the USA. ‘Many of our clients buy for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays and second honeymoons, we want them to feel fantastic and look good, and that is only possible when you know that garments have been made ethically’ says Lesley.
