India: AEPC & TCS tie-up to focus on IT need of apparel industry

The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) partners with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading global IT services and business solutions firm to bring IT-as-a-Service to it members. The service is about providing managed IT services, one that would scale up with business growth and leverage technologies for global competitiveness.
The newly forged alliance would focus on the strategic IT needs of the apparel industry. The objective is to redefine the ICT consumption model for apparel industries thereby create new growth opportunities and service level capabilities.
“Our industry is at a crossroads with the global outlook. We cannot undermine the role of information technology to meet competition and harness domestic talent. However, SMBs in this industry needs IT that grows with business, both in scale and business models. I look at TCS' IT-a-as-Service catering to both.” said Mr.Ashok Rajani, Vice-Chairman, AEPC.
“For SMBs it not just about efficiency, but the speed in responding to global opportunities. We are conscious of typical challenges in SMBs in terms of capital and building in-house IT setups. IT-as-a service is about managing the IT for the SMB by treating every business as unique.” says Venguswamy Ramaswamy, Global Head, Small and Medium Business, TCS.

Apparel Export Promotion Council was formed in 1978 and has more than 11000 members. AEPC promotes & regulates the growth of Readymade Garments in order to establish India as a reliable supplier of high quality readymade garments & services. The council is sponsored by the Government of India, Ministry of Textiles.
