CAPRI SUN juice drink pouches have long been a favorite beverage for kids everywhere; they might become a favorite thing to wear now, too.
CAPRI SUN and TerraCycle, the eco-company that has pioneered the concept that any disposable material can be reused and created into something of value, have teamed up with green designer Justina Blakeney of Compai to create a one-of-a kind dress designed entirely from CAPRI SUN drink pouches. And, it’s now being auctioned online for charity at www.ebaygivingworks.com. All proceeds from the auction, which will run through April 4, will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
The unique dress was recently unveiled as part of the CAPRI SUN Ready to Re-Wear Runway Show at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade, a show hosted by teen actor AnnaSophia Robb (star of the Disney feature film currently in theatres, Race To Witch Mountain, and credits that also include Jumper, Bridge to Terabithia, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).
The event featured clothing from Bloomingdale’s and accessories crafted by TerraCycle from used CAPRI SUN drink pouches –- pouches that used to go to landfills -- all modeled by local Boys & Girls Club members. The undeniable star and featured item was the dress designed by Blakeney, whose work with Compai has been renowned for the way it rehabilitates “used and abused” clothing.
TerraCycle’s free collection programs, called Pouch Brigades, are beneficial to everyone involved. They are a fun and easy way for parents and teachers to educate children about recycling and reusing, while providing much needed funding to schools and non-profits, as TerraCycle pays two cents for each returned juice pouch. The pouches are then made into accessories, such as backpacks, tote bags, folders and pencil cases, through a process called upcycling. The upcycled products are then sold at major retailers nationwide.
“As the largest producer of juice drink pouch products, CAPRI SUN is thrilled to support TerraCycle’s efforts to repurpose our pouches, and help them give back to the community, as well,” said Nora Kalter, Brand Manager, CAPRI SUN. “The Drink Pouch Brigade encourages both kids and their parents to protect the environment, while raising funds for their school or organization.”
