Gottex, the acclaimed swimwear manufacturing company of Israel has been slapped with a suit in the local courts by the tax authorities for trying to evade import duties to the tune of NIS 6 million and has held two senior officers of the company responsible.
According to the indictment, Gottex imported swimwear manufactured from factories in Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania. But despite the fact that the fabric was sourced from other countries, other than these three, it did not pay up the import duties.
Gottex imported the swimwear in to the country, under a trade agreement; Israel has with the three countries, which states that swimwear is exempt from import levies if the fabric used in the costume originates from the importing country.
The indictment further states that Gottex presented false documents to prove that the fabric used in the swimwear garments were manufactured from fabric sourced from these importing countries.
