There is no sign of recovery in Vietnam's footwear sector for the year despite recent uptake of textile and apparel exports in the last couple of months.
According to Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association, footwear exports in the first five months of 2009 can reach US $2 billion compared to the target of $5 billion.
The European Union accounted for a majority share of footwear exports from the country and the sector has also been able to increase exports to the US by 9%, when compared with the same period of 2008, the association said.
