The 17th edition of OutDoor was (literally) a 'sizzling' success. With 20,460 trade visitors from 87 countries on hand, Europe's leading industry trade fair was once again able to exceed the attendance record set in the previous year by 6 per cent. Here are some visitor feedback.
OutDoor 2010: WORDS FROM THE SHOW
David Udberg, president of European Outdoor Group (EOG) and managing director of Lowe Alpine UK:
"Always looking positively to the future, our industry, once again, has demonstrated its unique ability to cooperate, prosper and grow. Figures at the show are very promising, the outdoor sector has a very upbeat mood and we have had a great show. High temperatures have meant warm halls, but, as always Friedrichshafen has proved to be a very welcoming and professionally managed event."
Mark Held, secretary general of European Outdoor Group:
"We are delighted that almost 450 people representing over 250 brands and suppliers attended the early morning breakfast events. It is good to see that the exciting and interesting topics being covered at these early morning sessions have proved so popular and we will aim to continue with these going forwards.
The attendance at this year's breakfast meetings has been a clear indication of how high a priority sustainability is on the agenda for the outdoor industry."
Reinhold Messner, mountain climbing legend:
"I was amazed to see how many manufacturers there now are. The range of products and services today is practically endless, which means of course that the market is growing. I think Friedrichshafen has brought a really attractive and valuable trade fair to Germany's southern frontier."
Bernd Kullmann, CEO of Deuter:
"It was a great trade fair, as always. Right to the end, all of the key customers visited our stand. Nobody was complaining about difficult economic circumstances. The outdoor sector is doing great. Working at OutDoor is also just a lot of fun. There is no other comparable place where you can combine work and pleasure."
Rolf G. Schmid, CEO, Mammut Sports Group:
"As expected the Outdoor-Show 2010 was running very well. The hot weather during the first couple of days did not hold the visitors off traveling to Friedrichshafen. The number of visitors at our stand was very high and exceeded our expectations particularly on the first two days."
Rolf Reinschmidt, adidas senior vice president Global Outdoor:
"OutDoor is the ideal platform for us to demonstrate the continuity of our new direction, as well as our clear commitment to the specialised outdoor sports trade and the entire industry. As in 2009, Messe Friedrichshafen looked after us splendidly, and we look forward to working with them in future. Following our return in 2009 and the very positive feedback that we received, we've experienced a visitor turnout this year that exceeded even our own expectations. This was due to our dynamic and fresh stand presentation, as well as to the considerable further development of our product portfolio."
Tom Ryll, director of International Eagle Creek:
"The trade fair was already enormously successful for us by the end of the second day. The quality of visitors was at a high level - and very international. OutDoor is our most successful trade show in terms of our international business."
Antje von Dewitz, General Manager, Vaude:
"We are very happy that visitor numbers at our stand have increased even more compared to last year. The diaries of our staff were full especially during the first two days of the show. Ecology was certainly the big issue this year. We are in the position to offer an elaborated concept to the specialised trade and to the media - which got a very positive feedback. As always the athmosphere at the Outdoor-Show was great and the progress on the infrastructural measures has paid off."
Let's look forward to seeing you again - at the 18th edition of OutDoor (July 14 to 17, 2011) at the latest!
