Carey Mulligan won't take fashion advice from Anna Wintour.
The 24-year-old star admits the formidable US Vogue editor advised her to wear a short dress to the Oscars ceremony next month (07.03.10), but she ignored her style tip.
She said: "Anna said I should wear short for the Oscars. I was like, 'No that is so not what I had in my head when I was six years old!' "
Carey, who has been nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for her role in 'An Education', claims she has yet to plan anything for the event.
She told people.com: "It's beyond wild. I haven't got a dress or speech planned. I haven't got any of that stuff yet.
"It's beyond crazy to be up against Meryl Streep. She is the best actor on the planet. So it is really hard not to be overawed. Meryl Streep is the queen!"
Discussing her appearance at the nominees luncheon, where she met all the other actresses vying for the prize - including Meryl, Sandra Bullock, Gabourey Sidibe and Helen Mirren - Carey says it felt like confirmation it was real.
She said: "You're made to stand on this bank with all the other nominees like graduation, and are called up one by one to get your certificate. You just go, 'Wow. I've actually got some written proof that this has happened!' "
