Vietnam: Buyers worry over child labour problems

Write: Lokelani [2011-05-20]

Vietnam officials have confirmed child labour issues in smaller factories in Saigon which have created serious concerns among Western garment buyers.

According to the officials, the problems are widespread among small manufacturers who have been taking up last-minute subcontracting orders for the big factories that European and US buyers normally work with.

The industry has called for stricter monitoring procedures of Vietnamese sub-contractors despite the fact that this will be the most difficult part of the supply chain to control.
