LAS VEGAS—Ease into Spring with a fresh round of comfortably chic offerings. At the recent trade shows in Las Vegas, designers delivered classic styles that were remixed in fresh new ways. The looks ranged from casual to dressy with core offerings including T-shirts and denim, bohemian-inspired styles and dresses reminiscent of vintage style a la "Mad Men."
The '80s and men's-inspired tailoring continued, but the freshest looks incorporated soft tailoring, lightweight fabrics, washed treatments and loose, easy shapes. Bodies such as rompers, moto jackets and harem pants continue to
be important. And new silhouettes and treatments broke out on the trade show floor including the "jegging," sequins, sweat suits and '90s-inspired ditsy-floral prints.
Here is a look at Spring/Summer trends for 2010.
Classic Chic
Classic tailored pieces are updated for Summer with loose easy shapes, soft tailoring, silk fabrics, lightweight linens and washed fabrications. The look is smart, comfortable and incredibly chic.
Faded Blues
Bleached, faded and worn-in updates the denim palette for Spring. Designers went crazy for chambray-inspired treatments, creating dresses, rompers, jackets and skinny jeans in the faded-out tonal hue.
Indian Summer
Bohemian is always a Summer staple, but this season, it takes a decidedly Native American twist. Indian patterns, fringe and tassels decorate everything from tunic tops to jeans, shoes and accessories.
In Bloom
The '90s are back and designers serve up floral prints in a variety of ways. Prints range from ditsy florals to bold rose patterns decorating dresses, rompers, leggings and even shoes.
It's a Wash
Bleached, tie-dyed, washed and worn—that's the look for the season. Washed-out treatments are used on everything from cotton tees and dresses to denim, leggings and leather.
Don't Sweat It!
Or do. Sweats are in for Spring, but this season it's minus the logos and the glitz. Get comfortable in the ever-classic gray sweat suit—tres chic!
Dressed Like Draper
Emmy Award-winning "Mad Men" has hit pop culture, and designers are channeling the '60s-inspired look a la leading lady Betty Draper. Smart but feminine dresses in easy breezy shapes come in colorful plaids, florals and watercolor prints with updated
The Jegging
Getting the skinny on denim means just one thing this season—"the jegging." The skinny new fit is all the rage as designers channel the look with ultra-skin-tight fits. Some offer hybrids of the look with denim panels, legging-inspired styling and engineered fabrics with plenty of stretch.
Tee Off
The T-shirt has become a fashion statement of its own. Companies such as LnA have created a demand for the perfect-fitting tee and others have followed suit creating variations on the theme. This season, the look ranges from oversized V-neck styles to batwing shapes, tuxedo-inspired looks and T-shirt-inspired dresses.
Hammer Time
We just can't seem to get enough of the harem pant. The style first emerged more than a year ago, and for Spring the look has caught on in mass proportions. It's the perfect ingredient for casual with its loose, easy shape. Cropped, cinched at the waist and decorated in sequins, the look is a key silhouette of the season.
Shine On
Sequins are the season's answer to embellishment, and designers serve them up in a variety of ways. Skirts, tops and shorts all sport sparkle, and accessories shine on into summer.
