Sexy, chic and glamorous. Look for swimwear to turn up the heat for Cruise 2010.
New trends freshen up the season, including bright neon colors, color-infused prints, harem pants, asymmetric necklines and flirty fringe trims. With many companies celebrating landmarks in the biz-Jantzen turned 100 this year-designers are resurrecting vintage style. Others are focusing on the future with innovations in eco-fabrics, laser cuts and architectural construction. And there is plenty of inspiration culled from around the world-from the Serengeti of Africa to the rainforest of Brazil-as designers
channel exotic themes into their collections.
The looks were all part of the beach scene at the recent Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Miami Swim, independent designer shows and SwimShow 2010 in Miami Beach, Fla. An international coterie of designers turned out swim- and resortwear chic enough to be worn from the beach to glamorous poolside parties. Here is a look at swim style for Cruise '10.
Material GirlThe '80s are a key reference in ready-to-wear, and the look is a statement maker on the beach. Designers turned out everything from hard-edged rock 'n' roll looks to Madonna-inspired material-girl kitsch and pop classics in neon colors and graffiti prints.
Asymmetric
Tan lines welcome. The asymmetric neckline is swimwear's newest look. Everything from bikinis to innovative one-pieces, jumpsuits and dresses featured '80s inspired styling.
Color Infusion
Color pervaded the collections in electrifying neon shades and vibrant color-infused prints. Artsy graphics and snake- and animal-inspired themes captured the look best.
All in the Details
It's all in the details with swimwear, and this season there was a plethora of new treatments. Key looks included strappy laced-up sides, fashion-forward laser cuts, headbands, fringe, ruffles and skimpy ruched backs that showed plenty of cheek.
Globe Trekker
Designers ventured to the far corners of the world for inspiration this season. From bohemian hideaways in Morocco and island retreats in the Caribbean, swimwear took on the look of exotic tribes from around the world.
One-Piece Chic
Designers channeled their inner avant-garde into one-piece styles with a flair for the dramatic. Innovative cutouts, lace-up details, crisscross straps and futuristic shoulder treatments achieved stunning architectural feats.
Vintage Charm
Sweet, sassy vintage styles made a comeback for Cruise with references to the Victorian era. Ruffles, lace and romantic floral prints were updated with a modern twist.
Jumpsuits
Jumpsuits were a breakout trend for Resort, with everything from chic strapless looks to avant-garde batwing styles and globe trekker-inspired harem silhouettes.
