Eti Krom has declared force majeure on its chrome ore and ferro-chrome deliveries and suspended sales following a landslide on Saturday that destroyed the railway line between its operations and Turkish ports. Until the force majeure is lifted, Eti Krom has suspended all new sales of high-carbon ferro-chrome and chrome ore. Before the landslide, Eti Krom had sold 140,000 tonnes of chrome ore and 10,000 tonnes of ferro-chrome forward until March 2010. "The main railway line connecting Eti Krom's ferro-chrome plant and chrome ore mines in Elazig to its loading ports of Iskenderun and Mersin is totally destroyed and closed due to heavy landsliding on Saturday, at Malatya," Eti Krom said.
