French graphite group Carbone Lorraine SA said Monday it has agreed to acquire electronic component manufacturer M. Schneider.
"Through this acquisition, Carbone Lorraine is set to become No. 2 worldwide in DIN-standard fuses and fuse gear," the French company said.
Vienna-based M. Schneider is the world's No. 4 in German DIN-standard fuses and fuse holders, with manufacturing primarily based in Germany and the Czech Republic, as well as a joint venture in China.
M. Schneider achieves annual sales of about EUR20 million, Carbone Lorraine said, without being more specific.
Carbone Lorraine said the acquisition will consolidate its positions in Germany and Eastern Europe, as well as other emerging markets like China, where it will also strengthen its position in the energy sector.
"This acquisition fits perfectly with the group's growth strategy, which is notably predicated on strengthening its leadership position in its expanding markets," Carbone Lorraine said.
