Green group demands bauxite expansion details

The Conservation Council of Western Australia says not enough has been done to identify the potential environmental impacts of expanding a bauxite operation in south-west WA.
Bauxite Resources wants to build a refinery and smelter at the Kemerton Industrial Park near Bunbury.
Council director Piers Verstegen says limited details of the expansion have been made available.
He has accused Bauxite Resources of trying to fly under the radar and avoid proper assessment.
In a statement to the ABC, Bauxite Resources has rejected any suggestion it is avoiding a thorough environmental assessment.
Managing director Dan Tenardi says exploration or mining will not be carried out where tenements intersect with conservation reserves.
He says the company has a policy of restricting operations only to those forests that are due to be logged.
