The dollar rose against major currencies in late New York trading on Thursday as good signs emerged from the U.S. labor market and trade data.
The U.S. Department of Labor announced on Thursday that the initial claims for regular state unemployment insurance benefits fell 27,000 to 451,000 last week.
Another report released by the U.S. Commerce Department in the day showed that the U.S. trade deficit was slashed sharply by 14 percent to 42.8 billion dollars in July.
