A "Tamper Evident" Grape Tomato Punnet, embodying Maurice Tabones' 2002, dual-lid invention, won an International PMA food safety award, some 5 + years after Tabone conceived the lid invention.
In October 2007, Sydney based, fresh produce marketing company, Perfection Fresh Australia Pty Ltd, became the first Australian company to win a prestigious, Produce Marketing Association ( PMA ), inaugural Impact Award for food safety, with a 200g tamper evident, grape tomato punnet. Further, historic information about this invention/award is available on the web.
Going forward, Tabones' latest inventions for improved "Safety Sealing" features (singular or dual lidded) and, other unique, thermoformed packaging features for space utilisation, are outlined on his web blog page. Notably, with one of Tabones' inventions, any suitable, existing product label or similar traceability label may be used as a "flat-applied" Safety Seal. No need for oversized, "c"-shaped/wrap around labels or heat shrink bands. The scope of potentially available container designs (singular or dual-hinged) goes well beyond what is currently published, insofar as pictures shown here or on Tabones' blog.
There are International patent applications filed and Tabone is current taking expressions of interest from Manufacturers and/or end users.
Fresh Food Manufacturing Companies who are serious about innovation in thermoformed packaging will potentially find Tabones' blog page "thermothoughts.blogspot.com"of interest, as too will "cutting edge", thermoformed packaging Companies, who currently supply packaging to the Fresh Produce or, Bakery, Industries, and wish to diversify through innovation, for example.
Tabone said "I intend to select potential and suitable licensees (i.e. end users and/or viable manufacturer's) and, work closely with those who qualify, to reach a desired design outcome in each particular instance. The inventions offer a lot of flexibility in potential design scope and, therefore, I look forward to working with diverse end users, as suitable opportunities present. Insofar as any exclusivity that may be offered or, potentially granted, I envisage that I may issue this by category/product type, to suitable licensees".
