Singapore ranks sixth globally in terms of the number of listings brought in last year among 13 mid-cap markets, according to a survey by audit firm Nexia International, local newspaper the Business Times reported on Tuesday.
The Singapore Exchange (SGX) ushered in 22 initial public offerings (IPOs) last year, a number it looks set to beat this year.
That number puts the local mid-cap market -- defined as those attracting mid-cap players and that have a total market value of under 2 trillion Singapore dollars (1.48 trillion U.S. dollars) -- ahead of the National Stock Exchange of India's 21 IPOs and behind NYSE Euronext's 33 IPOs.
From the start of this year until June alone, SGX has already secured 17 primary listings -- including reverse takeovers. The funds raised during the first half of the year stood at 2.19 billion Singapore dollars (1.62 billion U.S. dollars).
China's Hong Kong, however, stood firmly at the top in 2009, edging out other markets such as Australian Securities Exchange and Nasdaq of the United States, with a total offering of 73 IPOs.
