Sainsbury's picked up the Green Retailer of the Year Award last night at the annual Drinks Business Green Awards. The award recognised the supermarket's work behind the scenes to reduce its carbon footprint, improve performance in supply chain management and reduce its impact on the environment. The company was commended for its leadership in raising awareness and making a "real difference" in this area.
The Quality Drink Awards recognise makers of wines, beers, ciders, spirits and liqueurs. The award was presented by Drinks Business judge, Michael Cox, from Wines of Chile, who announced: "The winner of this award, for the growth in the category, numerous changes in their work with segmentation, identification of customer set and innovation in the way they merchandise, is Sainsbury's."
Sainsbury's head of beers, wines and spirits, Justin James, commented: "We're really proud that Sainsbury's has been recognised for its environmental credentials and we aim to be leaders in the UK for environmental innovation.
"The whole team is thrilled at the accolade we received as it recognises the crucial work Sainsbury's has done to help our customers shop and live more sustainably. We will continue to progress our commitment to reduce energy, packaging and waste within the category and wider business."
