2010 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships will be held on October 16 in Nanning. To further increase the impact of the Championships and popularize Chinese traditional culture, the Organizing Committee invited 14 advertising agencies and professional designers to compete for the bidding of the design of its emblem and mascot. Twenty five works of emblems and fourteen works of mascots were received and after careful screening and evaluation, the emblem designed by Mai Li and the mascot designed by Huang Chuntu became the Championships emblem and mascot at the approval of IAAF. The emblem designed by Mai Li includes the brand image of IAAF track events, the local element of Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Center, Nanning s city flower of Chinese hibiscus and the image of a running athlete. The background of Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Center is in green color which symbolizes the Green City of China with the words of NANNING2010 in white. The red color of Chinese hibiscus fits with the passion and energy of sports. The running athlete in the middle of the flower signifies the sports spirit spreading all over the City of Nanning. The mascot designed by Huang Chuntu is named Little Ox or Brother Aniu which comes from Sister Liu and Brother Liu , a well-known legendary love story of Guangxi Zhuang ethnic group. The running ox in Zhuang s costume manifests Guangxi Zhang ethnic culture. While showing its quality of endurance, it looks lovely and dynamic. All this fits to the characteristics of the event. In addition the mascot does not only show the history and culture with Nanning s features but also extend Nanning s message to welcome the coming event. |
