First Boao Int'l Tourism Forum a success

The first Boao International Tourism Forum has come to an end in Sanya, Hainan Province and was hailed as a great success for being an important international conference for the tourism industry during the post-financial crisis period.
More than 2,000 people attended the forum, far more than forum organizers expected. Among them, 60 were at the ministerial level. Participants discussed issues and exchanged ideas relating to the travel industry, such as real estate, media, culture and sport, informatization, yachting and golf.
The forum was a grand gathering of representatives from the global tourist circle following the financial crisis, said Shao Qiwei, director of the National Tourism Administration.
The forum produced a number of declarations, including the 2010 Hainan Tourism Declaration, and participants agreed to build the forum into an international convention and exhibition brand, jointly conduct research on policies and measures that can promote tourism development, and establish cooperative mechanisms in the global tourist industry.
Somphong Mongkhonvilay, minister of tourism of Laos, believed that Laos could develop its tourism based on Hainan Travel Declaration, which provides details on how to deal with the impact of the financial crisis.
For Hainan, the forum helped promote the island as an international tourist destination. Since Hainan became a special economic zone more than two decades ago, the province has developed into one of the top tourist destinations for Chinese. But a large gap still exists between its travel industry and those of advanced tourist countries.
Tan Li, deputy governor of Hainan Province, believed that the declaration would greatly promote the development of tourism and cultural industry and the further opening of Hainan.
