The England international defender, once captain of the team, was deprived of the captaincy by Capello after scandals surrounding his private life hit the headlines.
Allegations that Terry had an affair with team-mate Wayne Bridge's former girlfriend, eventually led to Bridge's quitting international football.
But the new captain Rio Ferdinand has been plagued by injury and has only played four matches for England since replacing Terry.
Capello said he wanted to know the details of Ferdinand's fitness problem and after that "will explain to him what really happened and what I am going to do in the next week, if I will decide on a new captain or about John Terry or something else."
England play Wales in a 2012 European Championship qualifier on March 26.
