Barcelona goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto agreed to sign a new contract on Monday with the current Spanish La Liga champions.
The club confirmed the news on its website, adding that the goalkeeper will put pen to paper on his new contract, which will keep him at Barcelona until the end of June 2012 on Wednesday.
35-year-old Pinto joined Barcelona on loan from Celta Vigo in the winter transfer window of the 2007-08 season to cover for the injured Albert Jorquera and Barca took up to make the move permanent with Pinto agreeing a three year deal, which was due to expire at the end of June.
Although he arrived as substitute to first choice goalkeeper Victor Valdes, Pinto has been an important player for Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, and played in all of his side's games in the triumphant 2008-09 Copa del Rey campaign, vitally saving a penalty in the semifinal against Mallorca.
This season has seen Pinto play eight games in the Cup and he will almost certainly play against Real Madrid in the final on April 20. The knee injury Valdes suffered in the New Year saw Pinto play three games in the La Liga and Barcelona won al three matches conceding just one goal in 270 minutes on pitch.
The former Celta keeper has also played in two Champions League matches, although he also had to serve a two-game suspension after imitating the sound of the referee's whistle in one match against Copenhagen.
