English Premier League side Liverpool announced that Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva has inked a new long-term deal with the club.
Liverpool declined to clarify the exact length of the contract, but interim manager Kenny Dalglish stressed Lucas "has been signed because of what he does on the pitch".
The 24-year-old Lucas joined Liverpool from Gremio in 2007 and began to enter the starting line-up in recent two seasons.
