Chinese authorities have now revealed the details of the corruption cases involving three Chinese soccer referees.
Lu Jun, Huang Junjie and Zhou Weixin, along with former Chinese Football Association official Zhang Jianqiang, are all facing charges of taking bribes and match-fixing.
In one case, CFA offical Zhang called on Lu Jun to call a match between Shanghai International and Shanghai Shenhua in Shenhua's favor, promising cash if Shenhua won the November, 2003 match.
Shenhua did win 4-1, which helped propel them to the league championship that year.
Lu Jun has now confessed that he tried to give "emotional care" to Shenhua players by treating them less strictly.
"And one or two weeks later, I went to China Football Association to meet Zhang Jianqiang in his office, where he gave me 350,000 yuan," Lu said.
Lu had refereed more than 200 matches in the domestic league over the course of his career.
He is also the first Chinese referee to officiate a World Cup match.
