Coir Board to boost its exports to Brazil

The Coir Board is carefully investigating the trade enquiries from South American countries, particularly Brazil, as it wants to boost its exports to these countries in the next few years, VS Vijayaraghavan, Chairman of the Coir Board has said.
The recent participation of the Coir Board in the four-day House & Gift Fair held in Brazil s Sao Paulo enhanced the possibilities of accelerating the exports of coir items to South American countries.
Brazil presently occupies 13th position amongst top 100 coir items importing countries.
Currently, India ships coir products like handloom mats, tufted mats, coir yarn, mattings and other coir handlooms to Brazil.
In fiscal 2010-11, India exported 1551.06 tons of coir products worth Rs. 104.3 million to Brazil, compared to exports of 1,332.44 tons of coir products worth Rs. 69.5 million in 2009-10.
