Tourism officials from China's Hainan Province are in Denmark to promote the tropical island as a holiday destination for Scandinavian tourists on Friday.
"Danes pursue warm and sunny islands to spend their holidays and we can provide that experience," said Chen Tiejun, Deputy Director General of the Hainan Provincial Tourism Development Commission.
"After 30 years of efforts, we have established a very good tourism industry. We can provide high quality service for tourists and we came here to let Danish people know they can travel to Hainan for their holidays," he told Xinhua.
Hainan is China's major tropical island, lying off its southern coast. Beach resorts, rainforests, hot springs, and unique local cuisine make it one of China's most popular seaside destinations.
The local tourism board says over 600,000 foreign tourists visited the island in 2010. Travel operators say there is a great potential for more visitors.
Philip Stack, Coordinator for Copenhagen-based Albatros Travel agency, said Hainan's tropical attractions could make it appeal to the whole European market.
The island is already accessible by air from major hubs like Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, and boasts high-speed rail connections. It also offers visa-free travel to many international visitors.
During its three day visit to Denmark, the Hainan delegation will discuss tourism management with local authorities and travel marketing experts and then heads to Sweden and Finland.
