Swedish car maker Volvo, which was acquired by China's Geely Holding Group last year, will build its second plant in Daqing, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

According to a review report from the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the new plant covers an area of 84 hectares and involves a total investment of 4.6 billion yuan (US$711 million).

It will have an annual production of 40,000 units of Volvo's XC60 sport-utility vehicle and 10,000 multi-purpose vehicles when trial operation commences in 2013.
