Italy to explore investment prospects in northeast handloom sector

A business delegation from Italy will visit India next month to explore investment prospects in handloom, handicraft, silk, cotton and other sectors, Tripura Industry and Commerce Minister Jitendra Chowdhury has said.
The Minister said that a 280-member team headed by Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini would visit India during first week of November to enhance bilateral trade ties.
Some of the members of the delegation will visit north-eastern States like Tripura by November 3, and hold discussions with respective State governments and local businessmen and investors, the Minister informed.
He further revealed that Italy has shown interest in studying the prospects of investing in industries in the north-eastern States including handicrafts, handloom, silk, and cotton.
During the visit, the Italian delegation is expected to ink some Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with enterprises in the north-eastern States of India, he stated.
