Producers' Prices Index (PPI) for Manufactured Goods Grew 2.4 Percent in May

In May, the producers price for manufactured goods rose 2.4 percent over the same month of last year, purchasing prices for raw materials, fuels and power increased 5.5 percent.

Producers price for means rose 3.4 percent from the same month a year ago. Of which, prices for mining and quarrying industry, raw materials industry rose correspondingly up by 12.9 percent and 6.0 percent; that of machining industry grew 0.8 percent compared with the same month of the previous year. Price for means of consumer goods dropped 0.4 percent, year-on-year. Of which, the price for food decreased 0.8 percent; for clothing and commodities rose 0.5 percent ,while that of durable consumer goods dropped 2.1 percent.

In terms of categories:

- Producers price for crude oil rose 20.7 percent over the same month of the previous year, its impact on the general level of producers price for manufactured goods rose by 0.6 percentage points. The prices for oil products, such as gasoline, kerosene and diesel oil increased 19.8, 24.1 and 20.5 percent, respectively.

- Producers price for polystyrene and latex were 0.3 and 3.7 percent higher compared with the price in last May, while price for terylene dropped 2.1 percent from a year ago.

- Producers price for mining and cleaning industry with a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent, of which, producers price for crude coal expanded 4.4 percent.

- Producers price for smelting and pressing of ferrous metals dropped 7.4 percent from last May. Of the total, producer s price for ordinary large rolled-steels, medium rolled-steels, small rolled-steels, wire rod and heavy steel plate correspondingly dropped 9.8, 8.6, 3.4, 6.6 and 14.2 percent.

- Producers price for smelting and pressing of nonferrous metals increased 25.3 percent compared with the same month last year, the increase of copper, aluminum, lead and zinc were within the range of 9.5 to 66.5 percent.

Besides, wherein the purchasing price for raw materials, fuels and power products, the price for fuel and power, nonferrous metal materials and chemical materials increased 11.8, 35.3 and 0.4 percent respectively, while purchasing price for ferrous metals decreased 3.6 percent.

Comparing with the same period of the previous year, the producers price index for manufactured goods during the January to May period rose 2.6 percent, and that for raw materials, fuels and power products grew 5.9 percent, year-on-year.
