The reporters aboard a new-type patrol vehicle together with six officers and men from the Sixth Company of a frontier defense regiment of the Shenyang Military Area Command of the Chinese People s Liberation Army didn t feel the slightest cold in spite that the outdoor temperature hung around -30 C.

It is a great challenge for the border guards to conduct patrol amid bitter cold in winter. Those patrolling on foot in the snowfield are not only subject to frigid cold and fatigue, but also liable to snow-blindness, rheumatism and pharyngitis. Wei Liang, the political instructor of the company, said while his eyes riveted to the screen of the video patrol system, Although the vehicle isn t impressive in size, it functions well since it is equipped with a heating system, an electromagnetic oven, a microwave oven and a rice cooker.

It s no problem for a squad to survive in the vehicle for two or three days despite the icy cold outside.

The video patrol system showed not only the real-time conditions along the border line, but also the scenes of the area for three kilometers around via remote control cameras. The advanced facilities in the patrol vehicle including the satellite positioning system boasts five major functions, i.e., watching and searching, recording and sign-collecting, communicating and commanding, positioning and orienting as well as information transmitting, which makes it more responsive to emergencies.
